Dr Shakra is a consultant Neurologist at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE. He has particular interest in inflammatory and degenerative diseases of the central nervous system. He runs the clinic of Multiple sclerosis & Parkinson’s disease at SKMC.
 
Dr Shakra has graduated from medical school of Damascus University in 1992 and received his main training in general internal medicine and neurology subspecialty in the major university hospitals.
 
He carries MD, MSc ,MRCP and FRCP in medicine and neurology and additionally he has authored and coauthored many articles in in the field of neurology.

Antonia Ceccarelli, M.D., Ph.D. is the Neurological Institute Director of Research at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine (Neurology) at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, US. She earned her Medical Degree (M.D.) from the University of Medicine and Surgery of Bari, Policlinico Hospital, Italy with a clinical thesis on Multiple Sclerosis (MS). She completed her residency in Neurology at the Department of Neurological and Psychiatric Sciences, University of Medicine and Surgery of Bari, Policlinico Hospital, Bari, Italy.

Her training was focused on MS and demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system. As neurologist, she was then enrolled in a Ph.D. program in experimental neurology at the Department of Neurology, Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and Hospital, Milan, Italy, where she dealt with MS and neuroimaging research. After working at the Multiple Sclerosis Center and Rehabilitation Unit, Department of Neurology, Scientific Institute Santa Maria Nascente, Don Gnocchi Foundation, Milan, Italy, Dr. Ceccarelli moved to Boston, US, at the Laboratory for Neuroimaging Research, Partners MS Center, Department of Neurology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where she was appointed as faculty of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ceccarelli has authored and co-authored more than 35 papers on MS, and almost 100 abstracts submitted to national and international conferences.

She coauthored three book chapters on demyelinating and metabolic diseases of the brain with special focus on multiple sclerosis and neuroimaging. Dr. Ceccarelli has been invited also as speaker nationally and internationally and has received numerous awards for her research studies. She serves as a guest editor and ad hoc reviewer for several neurology journals and contributes to grant evaluations in Europe and United States. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and she served the AAN as Topic Chair for “Multiple Sclerosis and CNS inflammatory diseases” section for 4 years (2014-2017).

 
Manzoor Ahmed MD, MBBS

Dr Manzoor Ahmed is an experienced Diagnostic Neuro-Radiologist with more than 15 years of experience. Dr Ahmed trained in Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA in Diagnostic Neuro-radiology in 2003-2004. Have been affiliated with same institution for most of his career including Cleveland Clinic in UAE . He is currently working in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Dr Ahmed is a passionate teacher and participant in academic activities. Has been involved as a speaker and organizer in multiple national and international meetings in the Gulf region. His special interests in Diagnostic neuroradiology are Acute Stroke Imaging, Multiple Sclerosis and Head & Neck Imaging. On the non-interpretive side, he is an ardent advocate for Appropriateness in Imaging. He believes “Radiology harbors much more potential than just images”.

 
Abubaker Al Madani MD

Dr. Abu Baker Al Madani completed his undergraduate certificate in 1997 from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. In Gothernburg University, he was involved in teaching and contributed in research study with Dr. Anders Hamberger in neuroprotective agents in acute stroke. Then, he completed his Canadian Royal College in Neurology (FRCPC) in 2009.

Dr. Madani had his residency at the University of Toronto which is ranked number 1 in Canada by Royal College of Canada, and ranked number 4 in the whole North America by American Academy of Neurology. He was personally involved in regional stroke program and he was involved in at least 500 stroke cases and 80 TPA cases. In his residency he also did one whole elective year which involves EEG, research, pathology and nerve conduction studies. By finishing the residency, he was able to manage neurological cases as general neurological cases as general neurologist in 2007. He has his fellowship in neuromuscular subspecialty from 2007 to 2009.
 
Taoufik Alsaadi M.D., FAAN, ABPN, ABCN, ABCE

American Center of Psychiatry & Neurology (ACPN)

Dr. Alsaadi is a Chief Medical officer and the Chair of the Neurology Department at the American Center of Psychiatry & Neurology (ACPN). He was trained in Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of California San Francisco and was a research fellow in Epilepsy there. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and by the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology and by the American Board of Neurology in Clinical Epilepsy.

Before joining ACPN, Dr. Alsaadi was the Chief of the Neurology Department at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City for 11 years. He was previously an associate Professor of Neurology and the Director of the Adult Epilepsy Program and the Clinical Research Program at the University of California Davis. His research has focused on conducting drug study trials for new anti-epileptic drugs for patients with epilepsy, quality of life in patients with epileptic and non-epileptic disorders, as well as other chronic neurological disorders, neuropsychiatric co-morbidities with various neurological disorders. Dr. Alsaadi has been honored with several prestigious awards for his work in the field of epilepsy. He has served on the Advisory Board of the Northern California Epilepsy Foundation and on the membership committee of the American Epilepsy Society. He has served as the President of the Western Clinical Neurophysiology Society in the United Sates and as the Vice President of CEMA (Commission of the Eastern Mediterranean Affairs). He is currently the President of the Emirati League against epilepsy. He also serves at the Editorial Board for BMC Journal of Neurology and Journal of Neurosciences. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 papers and book chapters and has served as a peer-reviewer for more than 15 scientific journals.

Completed by MBBS degree from University of Peshawar Pakistan and then went to London for further formal training in medicine. I obtained Diploma in Internal medicine, in 1998 from Imperial College, Hammersmith hospital London. During this time also contributed to research in endocrinology in Hammersmith hospital UK. After completing MRCP in 2000 in London obtained Neurology Specialist training (CCST) in UK in 2010.

I have worked as a consultant neurologist in York Hospital before coming to Abu Dhabi in 2015. I am currently working in SKMC as consultant neurologist. I am a general neurologist with special interest in Headache disorders ,inflammatory and Neurodegenerative conditions including Multiple sclerosis.

I have obtained the Multiple Sclerosis Specialist Certification from American Professional Testing Corporation. I have been awarded the clinical excellence award for my work with brain cancer patients in 2015 in York hospital.

I have been the author and co-author of many articles in neurology.
 
Omar Ismayl

I graduated from Damascus University Medical School in 1990. Then I completed the master degree and Arab Board training in Paediatrics in Damascus University Children’s Hospital. After that I jointed the teaching staff of the paediatrics department.
 

In 1998, I went to UK for training in Paediatric Neurology in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospitals then I was appointed as a consultant from 2001- 2007. On return back to Syria, I jointed the teaching staff of the paediatrics department, Damascus University from 2007 till 2012. Thereafter, I have been working as Division Head & Consultant in Pediatric Neurology, SKMC Abu Dhabi till now. 

I enjoy teaching. I was appointed as honorary fellow in Manchester University and also as a lecturer in paediatric neurology in Damascus University. I contributed to Forfar and Arneil’s Textbook of Paediatrics 7th and 8th editions. My main fields of interest are Epilepsy and Neuromuscular disorders.
 
Tarek Shahrour MD

My name is Tarek Shahrour I am a consultant in liaison psychiatry working in Sheikh Khalifa medical city for the last 8 years. I have also been the psychiatry residency training program director for over 7 years in the SKMC.

I have graduated from the faculty of medicine, Damascus University in 1992. I have done my internship and did two years’ experience in internal medicine then I moved to Ireland where I pursued the career of psychiatry. I have joined the psychiatry training scheme of the royal college of surgeons in Ireland in 1997. At that stage I became a member of the royal college of psychiatrist in the UK and a member of the royal college of physicians in Ireland. I then finished the training and became a consultant in rehabilitation psychiatry in St. Brendan’s hospital, Dublin Ireland for two years. I then moved to another post where I was the leader of the psychiatric team caring for the homeless in northern Dublin inner city where I stayed for one year. I was also a lecturer in the university college Dublin at the same time.
I then moved to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where I founded and ran the psychiatric services in the National Guards Health Affairs in the Saudi eastern region. I stayed there for 5 years then I moved to my current post.
I have a special interest in the stigma of psychiatry, psycho-somatization disorders and the use of cognitive analytic psychotherapy.
 
Ahmed Shatila MD
Consultant Neurologist

Dr. Ahmed Osman Shatila obtained his BSc in Biology from the Wayne State University in the United States He continued his medical education from the medical college of Wayne State University. Dr. Shatila’s conducted a residency in neurology at Wayne State University and continued his fellowship in neurophysiology.

Dr. Shatila’s interest’s include inpatient Neurology, but not limited to Stroke, IV TPA program development and Status Epilepticus. He is also interested in helping facilities develop a Neuro Hospitalist model where the inpatient care can develop independently from the outpatient services.
 
This includes a combination of patients, resident and nursing education, inpatient consulting services and inpatient neurology services. Dr. Shatila is also the head of Multiple Sclerosis clinic at Mafraq Hospital as well. 
 
Suzan Ibrahim Noori MBBS,MD,FRCP (Edin),FRCP (Glasg)
Senior Consultant Neurologist, Associate Professor

Dr. Suzan Noori is a senior consultant neurologist at University Hospital –sharjah(UHS) & assistant professor in the medical college of university of Sharjah. She has Obtained MBBS (University of Khartoum); Clinical MD in Medicine (University of Khartoum). She is a fellow of the Royal College of Physician of Edinburgh (FRCP Edn.); a fellow of the Royal College of Physician of Glasgow (FRCP Glasg.)& Member of American Academy of Neurology (MAAN). Dr. Noori holds conjoint academic responsibilities in the Medical College - university of Sharjah, and an active member in the research group at the university. She also has obtained post graduate degree in the management of multiple sclerosis from Leeds Metropolitan University.

Her Key professional skills and activities include: Botulinum toxin Injections for chronic migraine & Therapeutic Botox for Dystonia and treatment of Spasticity), Intrathecal Baclofen pump refilling and programming for treatment of spasticity. Dr. Noori is a pioneer in using Botox for chronic migraine in UAE. She runs Botox training workshops locally & regionally

She is a member of many professional bodies locally; regionally and internationally as well as a member of many quality committees and task forces. She is one of the main founders, and currently; the head of the scientific committee of UAE MS support group. She has been actively involved in different meetings & forums as well as in the media and had coordinated regular campaigns for raising awareness for MS in her community.
